Under Mann’s new venture, Michael Mann Books, the prequel will begin as a novel, and possibly be adapted into a film or television series. Just two days after that announcement, another project from Michael Mann Books is in the works: author Don Winslow (Savages) is writing a novel about Chicago crime boss Tony Accardo and his successor Sam Giancana, which Mann might adapt into a feature film.
19-year-old Celeste and 26-year-old Sihem, both heroin addicts, are admitted to a rehab clinic the same day. They have a feeling they’ll be good friends. When Sihem tells Celeste that she had been pregnant but ended up having an abortion, Celeste says, “That’s not your fault.” Celeste is also comforted by Sihem when Celeste blames her mother for visiting her. The movie is to combine a film noir-style investigation with an exploration of altered states of consciousness, focusing on the story of 50-year-old Otto Ganz, the owner of a thriving building and civil engineering company that operates worldwide. One day he has to travel to North Africa to deal with some urgent issues and there, Ganz is confronted with memories of his youth, which he had tried to forget for many years.
